The client came across an image of our family Living Room project on Pinterest and wanted two apartment storage walls across two large rooms. The master bedroom is on the left side and incorporates a concealed study . We used high quality pocket door hardware to hide the study creating a neutral uncluttered backdrop. The right hand storage wall is in the living room and has a feature open shelf element that has an illuminated back panel.

Both elements are made from oak faced birch plywood with a red lino desk surface in the study and a red lino back panel to the open shelving. The back panel is set back from the shelving and the use of two LED strip lights shining up and down creates a dramatic lighting effect- each LED strip can be switched separately.

Across both apartment storage walls there is a combination of drawers, shelving and hanging rails with a total of 42 drawer. The majority of these are concealed behind the doors to create an uncluttered backdrop to the spaces. The cabinets and drawers are constructed from birch plywood with a hard wax oil finish. The doors are from 25mm MDF hand painted in Farrow and Ball Oval Room Blue with a modern eggshell finish. The 25mm door thickness allows for a substantial recessed handle detail and helps to give a feeling of quality and solidity to the furniture.

With Tandem Studio, we have realized an exceptionally beautiful project for our apartment - a built-in closet with an integrated home office workplace and an open shelf. Jonathan took up our concept idea and, in dialogue with us and for us, designed a functional piece of furniture with creative details. Sophisticated design and the use of high-quality materials also play a major role for Jonathan. His suggestions were inspiring and always took our ideas into account. We are impressed by the great care and craftsmanship that Jonathan ultimately brought to the project. It was incredible fun to be involved in the development of the piece of furniture from start to finish. We will definitely come back to Tandem Studio with new plans. We are absolutely thrilled!

The picture opposite shows the full range of materials used for the project. The open cupboard has the pull out printer shelf with two concealed drawers below and adjustable shelves above. The base of the open study cabinet was very carefully shaped to fit the contours of the floor to avoid having a base panel which wouldn't have looked so good and would have been in the way when sitting at the desk.
